As the fragility of our environment seeps into everyday consciousness, urbanites are increasingly becoming aware of buzz-words like “local” and “sustainable” and (ahem!) “compostable.” For busy New Yorkers to participate, this means keeping rotting food scraps in tiny kitchens until finding the time to hand-deliver them to community drop-off centers, which, unfortunately, have infrequent hours of operation. OR, just sending them to the landfill with the local hauler. For all but the dedicated few, composting eventually takes a back seat. We’d like to change that!
We are New York Compost.
We want to make composting easily accessible for New York City. Our goal is to connect the city to the soil via a network of compost collection tricycles and decentralized community-scale compost sites.

Things can get busy over here, but we’ll do our best to get in touch promptly.
We’ve recently been approached by Glad® to help get the word out about their compostable bags - made with approximately 40% vegetable-based materials so they’ll disintegrate at municipal compost facilities. In a joint effort to connect the city to the soil, NYCompost is hitting the streets with two Glad®-wrapped freight trikes.
Additionally, if you tweet "Compost Pickup" to @Glad2Wasteless, you can enter for a chance to win a free NY Compost Pickup.
To make this project possible, we’re working with IESI®, using their existing composting infrastructure to transport the compostables that we pick up in the city to a municipal composting facility outside the city.
